Changes to health provision cause worries

PharmacistTWO rather over the top articles from The Sunday Times and Daily Telegraph about changes to health cover for people living in France have caused distress amongst many.

Message boards and websites have been busy since the stories were published over the weekend as readers worried if they would continue to receive health cover.

Paris correspondent for The Times, Charles Bremner, has updated the earlier piece via his blog and the Internet French Property site has also written a more balanced feature about the changes.

I intend to live in my French home from June 2009 permanently, will I be eligable to join the CMU as I will be 61 years old? My wife will be 57. Having read the recent article I am a little confused. I will be financially secure (But not rich) and will receive state + a final salary pension at 65 years of age. If we have to pay for health care in France how much is it likely to cost? I would greatly appreciate your comments. Thanks Brian.

Hi Brian, I'm afraid there is much confusion over what is likely to happen, meaning it is practically impossible to predict what might be in place in 2009.

There is a bit of an update here though:

All the best, Craig
