BELVES airshow has been cancelled due to a fear of an accidental fire breaking out, because the showground is so dry and the neighbouring woods being like a tinderbox.
The aeronautical club has taken the decision despite preparations including being in contact with the local authorities, working with the pompiers on possible solutions and creating water stations.
One of the biggest risks is that the surrounding woodland tracks are used to move vehicles and handle traffic, but at the moment all motorised vehicles are banned from using the forest paths in the afternoon to cut the risk of accidental fires being started.
Belvès aeronautical club will be hosting its annual aeroplane meeting on Sunday 14 August, 2022, when it opens its doors to visitors.
Aircraft from across France, and further afield, will be present on the day with a wing-walking demonstration also set to take place.
An electric powered aeroplane will also be present, as well as a gendarmerie rescue helicopter, military aircraft and plenty of other types you can discover on the ground.
The event takes place at Belvès aerodrome found on the D 54 around 4km from Belvès in the direction of Cadouin.
Gates open at 11h, with the main demonstration taking place at 14h30, and entrance is 13 euros and free for under-14s.
It is always a popular event, with the roads local to the area often getting very busy, so you might want to make a full day of it.
And to give you a little idea of what the day is like, although a little old now the video below captures a little of the excitement of the Belvès airshow.
