THE popular Dordogne tourist destination of Sarlat has made it mandatory to wear a face mask during market days and for those attending the evening market.
To deter the spread of coronavirus, face masks will have to be worm in the pedestrianised areas of the town on Saturdays between 9h and 17h and on Wednesdays between 9h and 14h, for the regular markets.
And the same applies to the evening market, when the face mask requirement will be in place on Thursdays between 17h and 22h.
The Sarlat mairie has been very keen to promote the wearing of masks in the town with staff out on the streets advising the public about Covid-19 precautions, and around 80% of people have been willing to follow the advice.
But this new requirement comes after a decree was applied for through the Dordogne préfecture and is designed to reassure visitors but also locals and shop owners.
