AN evening of open air cinema is on offer this weekend beneath the atmospheric halle in Villefranche-du-Périgord.

Moi, Moche et Méchant 3 sees the mischievous Minions hope that Gru will return to a life of crime after the new boss of the Anti-Villain League fires him.

Instead, Gru decides to remain retired and travel to Freedonia to meet his long-lost twin brother for the first time.

The reunited siblings soon find themselves in an uneasy alliance to take down the elusive Balthazar Bratt, a former 1980s child star who seeks revenge against the world.

The film showing , in French, takes place on Friday 21 July from 22h, with tickets priced 5€.

 

45th anniversary of parents association for Villefranche: 29 July

Paper flowers have been strung across the square.

THE village square in Villefranche-du-Périgord is currently covered with lines of fluttering paper flowers, all ready to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the parents' association for the school.

The Amicale Laïque de Villefranche-du-Périgord is marking its special birthday on Saturday 29 July, with an afternoon and evening of music, a photograph exhibition, horse rides and plenty more, with a disco long into the night.

The celebrations are open to all and with the flowers in the sky, plus the village halle and arcades as a backdrop, it is likely to be a 45th birthday to remember.

Vide grenier in Loubejac: Sunday 30 July

The vide grenier in Loubejac is sure to draw many visitors

THE always popular vide grenier in Loubejac takes place on Sunday 30 July, with an official opening time of 8h.

Set beneath the church tower, the sale always draws in the crowds and offers you a chance to pick up a bargain or two with many stalls hosted by local villagers as well as those from a little further afield.

If you want to sell a few of your own things on the day call 05 53 28 49 40 or 05 53 29 49 50, with the price being just €2.50 per metre length.

On the Marchés des Producteurs website you can track down many of the events taking place across France in a couple of clicks.

Every Thursday the popular night market beneath Loubejac's church tower takes place and runs throughout July and August starting at 18h30, remember to bring your plates and cutlery.

There is a farmers market every Tuesday during the summer season in Villefranche-du-Périgord, it takes place under the village halle and starts at 18h30. On Friday there is a farmers market in Besse again starting at 19h.

Display of artists' work and salon des livres in Villefranche: 16 July

A NUMBER artists will be displaying their work on Sunday 16 July in the foyer rural of Villefranche-du-Périgord, here in the southern tip of the Dordogne.

Potters, painters and many other artists will be showing off their passion for their work, and explaining to visitors how they make what they make.

Also on the same day under the halle from 9h will be the popular salon des livres with a fine collection of antique books on display, but there will also be a chance to find more common titles and bandes dessinées.

EXPECT a night of loud music and dancing into the early hours as the Villefranche-du-Périgord Bal des Pompiers takes place on Friday 14 July.

Taking place at the fire station in the village, the evening starts at 19h with the chance to enjoy a beer and drinks, as well as a bite to eat.

The disco will be starting around 22h and you can be assured of an entertaining evening where the volunteer firemen and women of Villefranche-du-Périgord let their hair down.

On the 13 July there is a meal and disco, as well as firework display, taking place in the village.

Fête Nationale celebrations Villefranche-du-Périgord; 13 July

TO mark the Fête Nationale across France, Villefranche-du-Périgord is hosting a meal, music and a firework display on Thursday 13 July.

The meal, starting at 20h30, is organised by the local rugby club and includes magret de canard and is priced 15€ for adults and 10€ for children.

The disco music will spring into life from around 22h and a firework display that usually lights up the church is set to start at 23h.

On the 14 July there will be a disco organised by the local fire service, ensuring two days of fun and music in the village.

Dordogne chateaux and villages shine as le Tour passes through

THE stunning Dordogne countryside was the backdrop to stage 10 of this year's le Tour as television viewers from around the world saw the best of this corner of France.

The race itself saw German Marcel Kittel win the stage as he sprinted over the line for his fourth stage win, while Chris Froome retained the yellow jersey, but it was the Dordogne's many chateaux, its river and deep wooded hillsides that stared.

Crowds lined the 178km route from Périgueux to Bergerac, with particular mention of the thousands cheering on the cyclists up the slope out of Le Buisson.

For fans watching on the television the helicopter camera crew showed them the Dordogne valley with Dômme in the foreground, La Roque Gageac proved a popular stop and all the chateaux in the region seemed to feature.

Out on the road, and from our own vantage point near Urval close to the river Dordogne, people waved and cheered as the publicity caravan, including a motorised madeleine, sped past before the cyclists themselves in a flash of spinning wheels and blurred Lycra.

Despite the race only really taking off in the last couple of kilometres, the many thousands along the route are sure to have enjoyed the day, chatted and met new friends, whilst lapping up the growing excitement of le Tour's approach - I know I did.
