THE first girolles and cèpe mushrooms have been found in this corner of the Dordogne, according to France Bleu Perigord and whilst not rare at this time of the year, it has been a pleasant surprise for some.
The colours and scents of the many flowers and trees in May can find you standing in a light breeze as you take in the fragrance that's all around you.
And if you want to get out this weekend, here is a look over some of the events taking place in the area around Villefranche-du-Périgord, including the local football team aiming for promotion.
Have a splendid weekend, whatever you choose to do.

Saturday 28 May
Morning market in Villefranche du Périgord.
Saturday 28 May and Sunday 29 May
A short drive from Villefranche-du-Périgord is Salles, a commune in the Lot-et-Garonne, and thanks to Phil who highlighted a country fair taking place over the weekend.
The Fête des Foins in Salles offers a chance to see how the land was farmed in the past with examples of the machinery and techniques used.
The event begins on Saturday at 14h30 and continues throughout Sunday, with many stalls to explore and food available.
Sunday 29 May
I still occasionally play for the second team of Fc La Ménaurie, but this Sunday the first team have the chance to win promotion to the equivalent of the second division of the amateur league in the Dordogne.
Currently in second place, La Ménaurie come up against St Genies who are in fourth and on exactly the same points and it is the last match of the season.
A win and La Ménaurie go up.
Kick off is at 15h30 and the pitch can be found on the D660 out towards Monpazier.
And if you know of anything coming up in the area in the next couple of weeks feel free to send me an email.
