What must be the toughest job in the French government, employment minster, has been given to rising star of the Socialist party, Myriam El Khomri.
After the previous occupant of the job, François Rebsamen stepped down, the challenge for the new head of the Ministre du Travail, de l’Emploi, de la Formation Professionnelle et du Dialogue Social is set to be tough.
With unemployment figures in France seemingly stubbornly stuck at around 10 per cent of the working population, it will be a real challenge to turn things around.
But Myriam El Khomri has said she recognises the importance of the position and that the French people can rely upon her fighting spirit.
And there is also the small matter of the promise her boss, François Hollande, has made in that he would not stand for the presidential vote in 2017 if the unemployment figures didn't improve.
