That was quick. One game into the French football season and we already have our first managerial casualty.
Marseille coach Marcelo Bielsa resigned after his players lost to Caen 1-0 on Saturday, a decision that was a surprise for the team as well as the supporters in the stands.
Marcelo Bielsa supposedly had a 'gentlemen's agreement' with Marseille president Vincent Labrune that a contract would be arranged soon after the manager guided the team to fourth last season.
But come Saturday and the opening match of the 2015/16 season that was all by-the-by, as Marcelo Bielsa said he couldn't work with such uncertainty and that he was heading out of the door.
His assistant manager is to take over in the meantime, whilst the team, the club president and the fans catch their breath.
