THE meeting and greeting by French presidential hopefuls, Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande, has seen the two men receive very different welcomes.
In Bayonne, Nicolas Sarkozy was met by Basque protesters, with a dash of Socialist supporters thrown in, who called for greater independence.
And it all got a little out of hand as riot police forced back the crowds, and Nicolas Sarkozy had to take refuge in a bar for an hour or so to let the situation calm down.
Very different to the reception François Hollande received in London, who met Labour leader Ed Miliband and a handful of the 300,000 French expats who live in the capital.
And it is no wonder that François Hollande headed across the Channel, as the French population in London is greater than that of Nice and is 'described' as the sixth largest city in France.
So look out for the Nicolas Sarkozy campaign bus to roll in to London soon.
Elsewhere, and French journalist Edith Bouvier, who was injured in Syria last week is receiving treatment in Beirut and is expected to fly back to France soon.
Edith Bouvier was smuggled across the border between Syria and Lebanon and arrived at a hospital in Beirut after midnight on Thursday.
Record numbers of travellers using Eurotunnel has seen the company make a net profit of €11m (£9.2m) in 2011, compared with a €58m loss in 2010.

Unfortunately, job seekers are still finding it hard as unemployment levels in the eurozone hit a record high in January at 10.7%, with 16.92 million people unemployed in the area. France’s jobless rate rose 0.1% during the month to reach 10%.
Finally, someone must have left the kettle on as gendarmes arrested a man after he was caught speeding at 184kph on the Ile de Ré bridge near La Rochelle.
