A PROVISIONAL weather report for autumn (September, October, November) from Météo France says the period was the second warmest since 1900.
Temperatures were 2.2°C higher than normal, second only to 2006, with much of the country experiencing warm, dry and unusually sunny periods.
Météo France has also provided an overview for 2011, with the year expected to be one of the warmest on record due to a dry spring and autumn, although July was one of the coolest.
Rainfall levels across France have seen great contrast, with the south east experiencing exceptional downfalls, whilst Brittany and the south west have been very dry with around half the expected rainfall.
