RESIDENTS of the Dordogne are being warned about the risk of forest fires with four fires reported just yesterday (March 24).
The Sud Ouest newspaper says that the fire officer for the Dordogne, Bernard Maumelle, believes there is a 'severe' risk of forest fires and that people have to take great care.
Update July 2022 - Forest fires in south west France have seen the authorities step up their awareness campaign.And the Dordogne préfecture has placed the département under a 'risque sévère' warning for forest fires.
Around 90 per cent of fires are caused by people, many of whom start a small fire to burn back grass and weeds, then take their eye off the flames and soon enough it is out of control.
The Dordogne authorities will have the latest information on the fire risk.
