AS the long summer holidays approach maybe you are planning on going away or your business premises will be left empty, if so then many areas will operate Operation Tranquillité Vacances which is overseen by the local police or gendarmerie.
The service operates between July and August and is designed to provide property owners with added security as police officers will be aware that a building is empty and so be vigilant during patrols.
The Paris Préfecture de Police offer some advice and tips on Operation Tranquillité, although the service is not just restricted to cites, rural gendarmerie stations will also keep an eye on things.
If you want to use the service you need to be away for seven days or more, contact the police service at least 48 hours in advance and ensure your property is secure.
Other tips include putting any valuables or large amounts of money in a safe whilst away, and people who live in the countryside are advised to work with their neighbours and be aware when people are away.
