HIDING away in the technical notes of Chancellor Alistair Darling's Budget was a change to the taxation rules regarding Furnished Holiday Lettings (FHL).
The changes will have implications for those living in the UK and who have a property in France that they let to holidaymakers and run as a business, as owners will enjoy some tax advantages.
But they will have to be quick as the benefits will only be available for a short period of time because Furnished Holiday Lettings benefits will be repealed from April 2010.
Chartered Accountant Mark Simpson has taken a look at the changes and how they impact those with properties in France with a specially written piece, furnished holiday lettings - the French angle.

Can anyone out there help me to find a carpet fitter? I have a holiday home in Champagne (52)
and would like to have fitted carpets in the bedrooms. It seems to me that in France they don't do the 'thick underlay, gripper rods' type of laying, they usually glue the carpets down! As insulation is one of my major concerns,I would like to try and get a fitter who's familiar with 'English style' fitting.
The area is 45 square metres (3 beds + hall) so may be worth someone travelling.
