THE French health system has taken a bit of a battering in a report that looked at the different healthcare schemes across Europe.
Number one spot in the annual Euro Health Consumer Index was taken up by the Dutch healthcare system, with Denmark and Austria making up the top three of a list of 31 countries.
France, Belgium and Portugal were highlighted as being on the slide, with the publishers of the study, Health Consumer Powerhouse, saying these health systems do not keep up with the improvement rate found in countries like Denmark, Ireland, Czech Republic and Hungary.
The UK healthcare system, actually rose four places to gain a ranking of 13th, but it was still two places behind former Soviet republic Estonia, and three behind France.
The Euro Health Consumer Index is an annual ranking of national European healthcare systems across six key areas: patient rights and information, e-health, waiting time for treatment, outcomes, range and reach of services provided and pharmaceuticals.
