IF you have ever wondered what the postal code for a village or region is, then drop in on La Poste's trouvez un code postal section of its website.
You have a choice of either typing in the name of a village or town which then returns the post code, or you can do it in reverse and enter the postal code to produce a list of locations.
On the same page you will also find in the right hand column a few other useful tools such as a calculator for pricing parcel deliveries and a way to check that your address is being displayed in a format that suits La Poste.

Other hints on post codes.
NOTE the first two digits are the number of the Department, which will also be regcognisable on the local car number plates.
www.mappy.fr will show the location of any given post code. It will also show the post code for any given town. I find a visual ID check helps, as some town names are re-used many many times all over France.
