JAZZ, they say is a personal preference, but July brings The Humber Faculty Jazz Ensemble to the Auxois area of Burgundy.
If you want to hear an exciting blend of original compositions, a fresh approach to jazz standards and be included in an international treat, all set in the beautiful countryside of Burgundy the opportunity is too great to miss.
All from an ensemble which has just returned from a triumphant tour of Korea.
The Humber Faculty Jazz Ensemble, from Toronto Canada, is made up of faculty members who, themselves, are leaders of their own award winning groups. They have played with, and for, some of the greatest names in the music profession.
Denny Christianson, leader and trumpeter, is also director of Humber's music programme. He has recorded over 250 albums and worked with Ray Charles, Sammy Davis, Michel Legrand, Stevie Wonder and Veronique Sanson.
Mark Kelso, drummer, has played with Paquito d'Rivera and Shania Twain.
Mike Downes, bassist, is known in France for his work with Molly Johnson, Diana Krall, John Abercrombie, Peter Erskine, Dave Liebman, Chris Potter and Kenny Wheeler.Brian Dickinson, pianist, has worked with names such as Randy Brecker, Lee Konitz, Jerry Bergonzi, Dave Holland, Steve Gadd, Kenny Wheeler, Sonny Fortune and Kurt Elling.
Kirk MacDonald, saxophonist, is an international award winning composer who has had over forty of his compositions recorded and worked with Eddie Henderson, Kenny Wheeler, Sonny Greenwich, Harold Mabern, Phil Woods and John Taylor.
The ensemble are giving three concerts:
July 24 at Vignoble de Flavigny at 9pm
July 25 at Saint Seine L'Abbaye at 9pm
July 27 at Parc de la Fougère Vitteaux at 5pm
Tickets are €12, €8 reduced tariff and under 12 years.
The concerts are produced by CIRC, situated at La Roche D'Hys, whose activities cover many artistic fields, music, dance, poetry and cinema amongst others.
