I AM a big fan of watching and listening to the news to help improve your understanding of French.
And whilst you can save many of the different channels offering up live feeds to your favourites, I have just installed a piece of software called Zattoo.
It provides many of the television news programmes you can receive through your regular TV all in one place, but it only provides those channels available in the country where you connect to the internet.
So in the UK I was able to easily watch France 24, as well as channels such as BBC News 24, BBC Three and Channel 4.
In France you are able to watch France 2, 3, 4 and 5, but can also tune in to arte and TV5 Monde, in total there are 15 channels to choose from.
You are going to require a broadband connection to watch the channels, and if you are worried about the legality of such a service, Zaattoo say on their website:
Zattoo is as legal, safe and reliable as cable TV. We make it our pride to clear all rights we must clear: with you, as well as with everyone else as mandated by the copyright regulations in your country. And your channel is available not wildly all over the Internet, but only to registered users in the territory we agree upon.
It is a very simple process to install the software on your computer and after registering with the service, which is free, by offering an email address and password you can have a pick of channels just the click of a mouse button away.

It's worth noting that in Switzerland (where Zattoo are based, I think), Zattoo users get access to BBC One and ITV1. If enough people ask Zattoo, perhaps France2 or similar will one day appear on the UK version of the system?
