IT was quite worrying to see that stolen bank account details are exchanged over the internet for about £5, especially as many people when moving to France access financial websites more than usual.
A report from security firm Symantec says the problem of online theft is increasing, with EU based bank account details particularly attractive to thieves.
Symantec warn that social networking sites are providing new opportunities for identity theft, while phishing hosts have also increased, these are sites that look legitimate and are often promoted through warning emails asking for bank details, or similar, to be updated.
So I thought I would link through to some articles from the archive highlighting the scams to look out for, as well as the steps you can take to stay safe online.

Yes - be careful. At present (April 08) there are scam e-mails circulating, allegedly from Nat.West and the Halifax. Delete them.

Hi Chris, many thanks for the heads up on other scams out there. As you say deleting messages is the safest option.
All the best, Craig
