THE social security system in France is a complex beast with often two or more different organisations handling the simplest of operations.
It can be a challenge to understand the way that unemployment benefit is administered, or how hospital visits are arranged and the basics of the pension system.
But there is a very useful English-language guide on the Dordogne l'Assurance Maladie website that provides a broad overview of French social security.
There is a link to a .pdf document that should open on almost all computers and although some of the figures may have changed, there is still plenty of useful information covering a wide variety of subjects including medical support, pensions and a range of other benefits.
