HERE is a simple little marketing trick I used when promoting This French Life through the services of eBay.
When I was in France I used to buy a copy of the local newspaper on the day that the property listings were featured.
I’d also pick up a copy of the monthly magazines and even the free catalogues that some of the estate agents would produce – making sure they were all in good condition.
Then I would head over to eBay and pop them on the site, usually starting them at around 99p and making sure that they were available for people from around the world to bid on.
My listing would give a quick run down of what was in that week’s publication, highlighting particular regions or interesting articles, but ensure there was one additional element.
eBay kindly allows you to create a Me Page that gives you a chance to write a little about yourself, so if you have got a holiday home in France you could write a few paragraphs about your life and offer the odd tip or two.
But also on this page you can feature a link across to your own gite website so that people can click through and find out more about your property, giving you the opportunity to hook into potential customers.
To get people to visit your Me Page you can highlight in your actual listing for the property magazines that they can find out more about your life in France by clicking on a link that takes them through to the page about you, with the link to your property’s website.
So for the cost of a listing, and the final fees when your property newspapers sell, you’ve got an eBay audience of millions and a ‘warm’ potential customer as they have already expressed an interest in French property by reading your auction page.
