RYANAIR looks ready to take on the cross-Channel ferry firms with the launch of a new service to Deauville, in Calvados.
Flights from Stansted to the area will begin on October 31, operating on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The airport is on the outskirts of Deauville and lies between the ferry ports of Le Harve and Caen, and with Ryanair starting one-way tickets at £2.99, excluding taxes, the ferry firms may face a challenge.
LD Lines offers a Portsmouth to Le Harve link and Brittany Ferries offers a service from Portsmouth to Caen.
Other flight news sees Satellite Travel offer skiers a new route to Chambery from Birmingham airport starting on December 23, the company offers extra services such as free ski transportation.
The charter flight firm also offers flights to airports close to the Alps from Manchester, Gatwick, Stansted and Bristol.
