A PATIENT research group has said the French health system provides its citizens with the best care and support in Europe.
A report from the Health Consumer Powerhouse group claims France, as well as the Netherlands and Germany, came top as the countries who provide the most patient-friendly services.
The research compared health provision across the European Union member states, as well as Switzerland, looking at services, availability of patient information and health advice.
One criticism of the French, and German, health system raised in the report was that both displayed "an expert-driven attitude" to healthcare.
In France, in particular, the system is "technically efficient and quite generous", but the authors of the report say, "slightly authoritarian".
Health care in both the UK and Ireland featured low in the report with Irish hospitals struggling under large waiting lists, and the NHS ranked in 15th place.
