WITHIN a day or so of each other the BBC and French television opened up their archives on the internet, with differing degrees of success.
The BBC’s programme catalogue unfortunately only has written details of shows and news items, no actual clips to watch.
The Institut National de l'Audiovisuel has gone the whole hog and put programmes online from as far back as the 1920s, featuring Edith Piaf, Brigitte Bardot and countless others.
One of the most popular videos has been Yannick Noah’s victory in 1983 in the French Open, but with over 10,000 hours of radio and television available there is plenty to explore.
Naturally there has been great interest in France and the site has received over six million visits in the few days it has been up and running, so accessing clips can be difficult.

I am trying to trace a piece of film recorded live when I danced in the International dance festival in Nice in July 1979. I remember we were recorded dancing live that Night. I danced for the Arthur burns School of dance, we had green costumes and represented Ireland. One of the dances we danced I am trying to revive the Rose among the Heather, and would be delighted if I could find the copy of when 12 of us danced it in the Dance festival in Nice live on TV.
