THE light and seasons in Provence have drawn artists to the towns and villages of the region for centuries.
It is impossible to say why colours and shades look so different; the only way to capture it is on canvas or through a camera lens.
And a British artist has brought together his oil paintings and the internet to establish himself in his studio in Provence.
Every day Julian Merrow-Smith paints a Postcard from Provence that is a snapshot of a scene from around his home.
Each painting is a small study in oils measuring around 20cm by 12cm that feature studies of fruit, views across the countryside or tumbledown buildings in a field.
And each painting is placed on his website offering people the chance to buy it for $100 but you will have to be quick as they don’t last long.
Julian sends out an email with the latest painting and you can be sure that it will be snapped up within minutes.
Take a read of some of the comments beneath the sold paintings and it is clear that Julian’s artwork is attracting a growing fan base.
