IF can sometimes be a little daunting setting up a holiday home in France especially if you have only a little experience.
Questions about ways to promote your home, regulations that have to be met and what style of bedding to use are just some of the things that are likely to be going around your head.
And the opportunity to chat with others and use their experience to help you make a decision is what lies at the heart of the Lay My Hat website.
The site has been created by Paolo De Paolis who has a rental property in Provence and was keen to use the internet to promote his home.
So now the site has developed into a resource for seasoned property owners to pass on tips and for first time buyers to ask questions and seek advice.
There are plenty of articles on the site, for example covering things like taking good photographs, how to describe your own home effectively and mistakes to avoid.
The site also features a forum that allows people to ask questions as you would expect, but there is a very novel category that is worth mentioning.
People often create a website for their holiday home to help promote it but it is difficult to get feedback and see if it is actually working.
So Paolo has set up a category that allows you to post your website address and ask people to pass comment, and the replies are very constructive, helpful and are sure to prove useful if you are creating your own site.
If you are running a holiday home in France then the Lay My Hat site is well worth spending some time on, you are sure to find something useful.

Is there away of buying a second property in France , that will enable me to avoid paying large taxes if at sometime in the future I want to sell the first property.

Hi Jon
Thanks for your message.
I think your property will be considered a second home so is likely to face capital gains tax.
Specialist tax advice from someone like
http://www.siddalls.net/
http://www.sykesanderson.com/
should be sought.
Hope this helps.

Hi Craig - I agree - laymyhat is an amazing source of help for vacation rental owners. You always get a good mix of responses when you ask for a website review and the members put in a lot of time helping others.
