CAR boot sales, or vide greniers, are to come under the beady eye of French tax inspectors to try and weed out the dodgy dealers.
The sales are popular the length and breadth of France but were originally meant for people to empty their attics and make a few pennies.
However, The Times reports that dealers that are described as acting like the ‘mafia’ are muscling in on the vide greniers and running small businesses that appear to be turning a tidy profit.
And as the appeal of French antiques grows, especially as a way of furnishing a second home on the cheap, so the taxman wants to make sure he’s getting his slice.
