FRENCH tourism bosses have said that this year’s trade was comparable to that of 2003 in the south of the country but the north did not do as well.
The Observation, Développement et Ingénierie Touristiques France (ODIT) said that summer 2005 in the Mediterranean area was improved on 2004.
However, ODIT said that the north of France in particular the Vendée, Brittany and Normandy suffered this year and failed to beat figures from last year.
The improvement in the south was thanks to the loyalty of Belgians and Scandinavians, and a return of North American and Asian visitors.
"If favourable weather conditions in September are added to the August recovery, 2005 should be better than 2004, although not at the level of 2003,” the organisation said.
