THE French parliament has increased the age at which women are able to marry from 15 to 18 years old.
The new rule changes the existing civil code, which dates back to 1804, and brings the legal age of marriage for women into line with that of men.
The move comes as part of a package of measures that aims to cut domestic violence in the home which has been led by the Ministère de la parité et de l'égalité professionnelle.
