WITH spring finally upon us now is the best time to visit the many events and festivals on offer across France.
And the coming weeks are full of surprises with everything from seafood to strawberries; marathons to Mozart.
Take a look at what’s on and all feature links so you can find out more:
Scallop Festival, Brittany, April 16-17
With boat trips and sea-shanties and, above all, plenty of opportunity to taste the local culinary treat, the Breton port of Erquy celebrates its coquille Saint-Jacques for two days each spring. Restaurants in the fishing port create special menus for the event and in the streets visitors may buy everything from scallop kebabs to snack-sized plates of the marine treat.
Strawberry Fair, Limousin, May 8
Why wait for the pricey punnets at Wimbledon when Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne celebrates its Strawberry Festival in May? Here you may enjoy the fruit on its own or cooked in a gigantic tart shared amongst all the villagers. The food is just the excuse for a day of markets, merrymaking and music.
Marathon, Lyon, April 17
Pant your way past the renaissance splendour, classical heritage and natural glories that give Lyon its UNESCO listed status alongside 10,000 fellow sporting types taking part in the city's annual marathon.
The full 42km route is for the hardiest runners, shorter circuits and childrens’ races over 1-3km make this very much an event for all the family. The route runs from the Palais des Sports to the Avenue Jean Jaurès.
Classical Music Festival, Val d'Isère, April 19-21
Join Mozart, Schumann and Brahms on the alpine slopes as music eclipses sport for three nights only at the fashionable ski resort. Val d'Isère's annual classical music festival MusicaVal offers an inspiring programme of three concerts. Tickets bookable at the tourist office at €27 for all three events or €14 per evening.
