WORKING out the cost of electricity use in your holiday home can be a bit hit and miss but the Électricité de France (EDF) website may help you out.
The site has a couple of useful web-based tools that allow you to work out your electricity consumption.
You can also work out an estimated cost of running certain electrical devices from water heaters to lamps.
Plus the cost of electricity usage in a house, useful if you are planning on kitting out your gîte with a few gadgets.
The simplest tool allows you to pick the tariff you are on, for example Base, and then enter your last reading and then your current reading, giving you the cost.
A more involved section asks you to enter the type of building, its surface area, which seasons it is occupied and what electrical equipment is in use giving you an estimated cost.
And the final tool asks you to choose an electrical item, give an idea of its usage either by the hour or day, and the result will be compared to the national average.
The different sections of the site will allow you to get an estimate of the running costs of your property and take away some of the guesswork.
