Earlier this year the French authorities had said Twitter should help to identify people who had written messages after a complaint was upheld by the Jewish student group, l'Union des étudiants juifs de France.
But Twitter had dragged its feet on the issue, claiming that it fell outside of French jurisdiction as it was based in the US, but today it agreed that it would provide information 'enabling the identification of some authors'.
