Unemployment level rises to 10.6%

UNEMPLOYMENT levels in France increased by 0.3% in the fourth quarter of 2012, when compared to the previous quarter.

According to the official statistics body, INSEE, the percentage out of work now stands at 10.6% when taking into account French territories overseas.

The unemployment rate has increased by 0.8% over 12 months, with youth unemployment increasing by 3.4% to stand at 25.7%.

The government is pushing through measures to make it easier to take on new staff, but with a rising cost of living squeezing disposable income, whether government has the tools to influence the economy remains to be seen.
