Complete alcohol ban for drivers discussed
THE idea of a complete alcohol ban for drivers in France has been discussed by the Conseil national de la sécurité routière (CNSR), the government's official road safety body.
Frédéric Péchenard, a police officer and leading civil servant within the interior minister, said that the idea of a reduction to zero of the alcohol level could be an option to improve road safety, especially for younger drivers.
The current alcohol level is 0.5 g/l of blood, and a complete ban already exists for drivers of public buses and coaches.
I personally think a total ban is a good idea and eliminates the grey area of am I under the limit or not?
Maybe then the silly law requiring carrying of an unused breathalyser can be revoked. Other than benefiting the manufacturers of the devices I really can't see the point.
