Campaign warns of dangers of using mobile phone at wheel
A CAMPAIGN has been launched to warn of the dangers of using a mobile phone while driving, as their use is the reason behind 10% of road accidents.
l'Association Prévention Routière has provided statistics showing 58% of drivers had used a mobile phone at the wheel in 2011, this compared to 23% in 2004 and 19% in 1999.
The association's campaign is set to focus on younger drivers, with 76% of those aged between 18 and 24 saying they had used their phone whilst driving.
At the heart of the campaign is a website, www.enmodevoiture.com, which asks people to make a decision about using their phone as if sat in the driver's seat.
If you are caught driving while using a mobile phone then you face a fine of €135 and you three points on your licence.
