Music, film, art and books to explore

Alex-russell-flintANOTHER quick pick of smaller events taking place both in France and London from my email inbox.

The oil paintings of Alex Russell Flint will be in display at the Osborne Studio Gallery, Belgravia, London from October 9 to 25, 2012.

On display will be 25 paintings of women inspired by a house in France with crumbling walls, high ceilings and rickety wooden floors, La Vieille Ecole in Argenton Chateau, built in 1850.

Alex was able to persuade the French artist living in the former school house to sell it, and now, after a 'semi-nomadic' existence, divides his time between England and France.

The town of Parthenay, in the Deux-Sèvres, is host to English language film showings at Cinema le Foyer that is a not for profit association, run by volunteers.

Over the next couple of weeks a documentary on the life of Bob Marley and the film Jane Eyre, featuring Dame Judi Dench, will be showing.

The small 11th century church in Besse, the Dordogne, will play host to a piano recital by François Pinel who will be performing a selection of works by Chopin and Debussy on Friday, September 7.

Timothy Smith is an American writer living in Paris, whose first book Cooper's Promise, will be pre-released at WH Smith in Paris on October 16.

The book tells the story of Cooper Change who through necessity, becomes a mercenary in Africa in a gritty labyrinth of thugs, prostitutes and corrupt cops.
