Half of medicines sold in France are ‘useless’

According to Philippe Even, former head of the Necker Hospital in Paris, and Bernard Debré, a doctor and member of parliament for the opposition UMP party, one in two medicines sold in pharmacies have absolutely no health benefit, while 5% are actively harmful.

The French are great hypochondriacs & love taking tablets! They are also keen on "phytotherapie" (plant -based) & homeopathy. Having tried various phytotherapies for arthritis, I found them expensive & disappointing & after a 3-month trial, went back to conventional medicine. The 'sécu' regularly takes several medicaments of their list of refundables, but if one has faith in them, they continue to be sold - see articles on "placebo effect"
