GDF Suez secures a 2% gas price rise

IT could have been worse, but the price of gas for domestic users will rise by 2% from October 1, the website of Le Point reports.

GDF Suez had originally asked for an increase of 7%, saying it needed to cover its cost of supply and past government decisions to restrict increases.

However, the government said that such an increase was not possible and that a 2% rise would not adversely affect the spending power of French home owners.

Whether the accumulative impact of a similar 2% increase in July, and a 4.4% increase at the beginning of the year, has an affect on people remains to be seen.
