GDF Suez pressing for 7% gas price rise

Gdf-suezGAS supplier GDF Suez has applied to the Commission de régulation de l'énergie to increase prices by 7% from October 1, although the French government has questioned the request.

According to Le Figaro, GDF Suez has said it requires such an increase to cover the cost of supply and past government decisions to restrict increases.

The government, as the holder of 35% of GDF Suez, has a controlling influence on price changes but it is often a game of cat and mouse, with consumers caught in the middle.

Last month GDF Suez was able to claw back a previous price freeze, which will mean customers face an additional €40 on annual bills.
