Dordogne hunter shot in hand by own dog
A HUNTER in the Dordogne has lost his right hand after one of his dogs caused his gun to go off.
The man, only named as René, has forgiven the dog, saying it jumped up at him when out hunting on Sunday.
René ended up being flown by helicopter to Bordeaux but the injury was so severe that he had to have his hand amputated.
And René went on to say that there wouldn't have been a problem if he'd used the safety catch on his gun.
My hunting experience is very limited, but one rule was 'carved in stone'. When walking/standing/climbing over a fence with a gun, it should always be 'broken' and pointing to the ground. I'm afraid that 9/10 French chasseurs ignore that simple rule daily. Accidents don't surprise me!

Must admit I head in the opposite direction when they are out and about!

I have my permis de chasse. All the rules, guidelines etc are all covered in the obligatory exams.
so no-one can claim ignorance. Afterwards unfortunately people do forget these very important rules.
