Three accidental drownings a day since June
A QUITE stunning 172 deaths by drowning have taken place in France this year between June 1 and July 26, an average of three a day.
The study by l'Institut de Veille Sanitaire (InVS) says more than 400 accidents have taken place in eight weeks, with the number of deaths highlighting the importance of being vigilant when swimming especially on the coast where 47% of deaths have occurred.
Since the begging of June, 27 young people aged under 20 have died, with five deaths of children aged under six, with two deaths occurring in a private family pool.
The InVS has looked into the accidents and drownings to see what can be learnt and provided a .pdf document offering advice on staying safe in the water.
