Discover hidden secrets during the Journées Européennes du Patrimoine

Journees-patrimoineJUST a quick heads up for the 29th Journées Européennes du Patrimoine, which sees many state buildings and museums open their doors to visitors.

Taking place on 15 and 16 September, 2012 the festival offers you the chance to explore behind the scenes of public buildings such as the Élysée, the Senate, government ministries and embassies.

The official website lets you track down events local to you, either by location or subject, with places often hosting special talks and festivals over the two days.

The map option is very simple to use, just keep clicking on the map to narrow down your search in the area you want to visit and from there click a push pin for more information on your chosen attraction.

It is usually free to visit the sites and monuments belonging to the state but private owners often offer preferential rates, but the terms of access are at their discretion.
