THE Museum of the Great War, or Historial de la Grande Guerre, in Péronne, in the Somme region of northern France, will be hosting educational workshops for children throughout the summer school holiday period.
The workshops are being provided for an English speaking audience aged from 7 to 10 years of age on Wednesday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
Children will be encouraged to research and find clues to trace the identities of First World War soldiers, whilst giving them a unique opportunity to learn about the war in the Somme region through discovering the museum’s extensive collections.
The workshops are being provided by the Historial for a special €5 ticket which includes museum admission, the workshop and snack lunch.
Also on display at the Historial until November 25, 2012 is the Missing of the Somme exhibition which presents deeply moving stories and experiences, including letters and poems, donated by living relatives of 182 soldiers from the Battle of the Somme, all with no known grave.
