Météo France offers long term climate predictions
Météo : Des prévisions climatiques régionales à... par developpement-durable
JUST how warm will it be in 50 years time? Will we see more rain in winter and short sharp summers in the future? Well Météo France hopes to be able to tell us.
The weather service has launched the Drias website (Donner accès aux scénarios climatiques Régionalisés français pour l’Impact et l’Adaptation de nos Sociétés et environnement) which aims to offer a projection of what type of climate France will experience in the future.
And researchers have looked to provide regional data so that business owners, farmers and local government can work on long term plans that need to take into account climatic conditions.
The website offers projections of conditions in 2055 and 2085 providing estimations of mean temperatures, the number of days of freezing or hot weather as well as an idea of rainfall levels.
Drias offers you the chance to check out possible scenarios at a national, regional and département level, as well as overlay features such as rivers.
Taking a look over the south west corner of France where I live, it looks as though the amount of rainfall expected each year will decline and average temperatures are on the way up.
