Ryanair start seven new routes from Marseille

Ryanair-logo1504SEVEN new routes out of Marseille Airport have been announced by Ryanair, meaning for the forthcoming winter period the airline will be operating 14 routes out of the airport.

The new routes from Marseille are to Brest, Eindhoven, Lille, Marrakech, Milan, Nantes and Rome, with the airline saying it expects to serve one million passengers a year.

Tickets are now on sale for travel from October, with some priced at €9.99 one-way.

Official BBC iPlayer for the iPad available in France

BBC Worldwide has released a version of the iPlayer catch-up TV service for people living in Western Europe, including France.

Currently available only on the iPad for €6.99 a month (or €49.99 for an annual subscription), the app will offer subscribers a choice of BBC programmes such as classic comedies like Fawlty Towers and Only Fools.

UNESCO adds Causses and Cévennes to World Heritage List

On June 28, 2011, UNESCO added the scenic Causses and Cévennes territory in the South of France’s Mediterranean backcountry to its renowned World Heritage List. Spanning over 300,000 hectares, these areas consist of an exceptional natural setting containing a variety of landscapes ranging from mountains to deep valleys. The Causses contains limestone plateaus separated by gorges and valleys, while the Cévennes boasts schist metamorphic rocks and the granite summits of Mont Lozère and Mont Aigoual.

Here is some really good news for retired UK expatriates who have been struggling with the UK’s average 90 days residence over 4 years rule. Under Treasury proposals, the rule could become much clearer and much easier. If they are approved, most retired expatriates will be able to spend up to 119 days in the UK in each UK tax year, yet remain outside of HM Revenue & Customs’ clutches.

Eurostar tickets on sale for winter ski bookings

Ski-eurostarIF you are planning ahead Eurostar has opened ticket sales on its train service for the 2011/12 winter ski season.

Eurostar offers two direct ski trains a week, stopping at Moutiers, Aime-la-Plagne and Bourg-St-Maurice, with the first beginning on Saturday, 17 December.

Travellers can opt for the overnight service, which departs on Friday night, arriving early Saturday morning and giving an extra two days on the slopes.

Winter ski flights to Alps from Scotland

Jet2IF your business in France is dependant upon the winter ski season, then Jet2.com will be offering flights to the Alps from both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

A route from Glasgow to Geneva will start this December flying up to three times per week during the season and from Edinburgh to Chambery up to twice a week.

The flights mean that some of the Alps most extensive ski areas and with the best snow records will be just a couple of hours away and prices start from £29.99 one-way including taxes.

London Heathrow to Nice from bmi

A NEW service is to be operated by bmi between London Heathrow and Nice.

Daily flights start on 25 August, 2011, before frequency is increased to twice-daily from 30 October, and prices start from £56 one-way.

Eurolines starts bus services between French cities

Eurolines THE bus company Eurolines has launched a number of services across France, offering cut price travel to major cities.

Six services are on offer, between Paris and Caen, Nantes, Rouen, Rennes and Angers, with another service between Rennes and Rouen.

Prices are cheap, for example tickets start from €8 on the Rouen - Paris service, but travel times are going to be quite a bit longer in comparison to train services.
