Common Agricultural Policy figures published in France
IF you have ever had an interest in finding out how much farmers in the local area get by way of financial support from the EU a website has been recently launched that will help.
Overseen by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bénéficiaires de la PAC website, lets you see figures from January 2007 up to mid-October 2008.
The UK already publishes the support its farmers receive under the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), but this is the first time that France has made public the amounts its own farmers get.
Over half a million farmers and businesses have benefited from the CAP, ranging from small farms to large agribusinesses and you are able to perform searches on the site.
The company receiving the largest amount of support was poultry business Doux, who enjoyed assistance of nearly €63 million, other major beneficiaries were sugar producers.
You can also take a look at the support offered to farmers in your local commune with a post-code search, for example looking around Loubejac in the south of the Dordogne people received an average of approximately €10,000 for the year October 2007 to October 2008.
