A view of Obama from France

Obama-franceSO just how did some of the folks from the US living in France mark the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States?

Last night and this morning people have been busy updating their websites with write-ups, as well as photographs, on what they did, but also wondering what it means for them and often how the view of the US overseas may change.

Here is a quick look at the blogs I've crossed, most are from people living in France a couple follow all things France, and if you have written a piece for your own website please feel free to add a link in the comments.

Party at the Hôtel de Ville - Angela Newton

What's been described as a VIP event in many places on the web was really just a lovely open house given by the mayor of Paris to his American residents. I mean, if I was able to get in, how VIP could it be?!

Obama inaugurated as U.S. president, but not without a little fanfare… - Kolet ink*

It’s almost a surreal experience to watch Obama’s inauguration from my apartment in France. Perhaps no more surreal than that guy in row 3,654 in D.C., but surreal nonetheless.

Bienvenue President Obama! - Rancho Escargot

This is why the Obama Inauguration was so important for all of us, oui - the larger 'POD' of international expats & French alike here in the Dordogne Valley, because we all collectively believe this is the most positive thing America has accomplished in many years.

Obama and the Gulf press - Salut!

This is how three of the daily newspapers in the UAE covered the inauguration of President Barack Obama. The supplement you see on the left of the montage is the eight-page pullout special from The National.

Serment - French Word a Day

Listening to the oath was a challenge from the start, as every time Obama said a word, the voice of French translation arose... and garbled it! This posed a dilemma: whether to concentrate on the version originale*... or the French echo that quickly obliterated it.

January 21, 1793 - GalliaWatch

As America celebrates what appears to be the inauguration of a king, savior, Messiah, man-for-all-people, deliverer-from-Bush, etc...
