Speeding drivers may face penalty points back home
BRITISH drivers caught speeding in France could soon see the long arm of the gendarmerie stretching across the Channel to grab them by the collar.
The Daily Mail claims that the French government is pushing for EU wide regulations to ensure fines and penalty points levied in one country are applied to a driver's licence back in their home country.
Speeding UK drivers are a particular problem around the Channel ports, so much so that a few weeks ago Kent police spent a weekend with the Gendarmerie Nationale's traffic section to raise awareness of speed limits.
One of the difficulties the French police face is that unless a driver is caught by mobile speed camera teams, motorists are not tracked down once back home and any fines or penalty points they would normally face are scrapped.

Do we chase the French I think not and another thing the Frence Legal system does not impose penalty points on a French Licences, which in Englad will affect insurance premiums and punishes drivers twice.

I agree with what the French are trying to do. I have driven over there for years now and love the experience. The only time you see speeding drivers is here in U.K. Or U.K. drivers being idiots over on the french roads. As for what penalties it might mean here in Britain the problem is easy to solve. Dont speed on french roads and you will not be chased here at home. It's that simple.

Maybe I've not understood your message completely William but there is a system of penalty points in France, they are just subtracted from a starting amount of 12 as opposed to added up, more here:
