Touring a few blogs in France

Orchids in FranceTAKE a little time to visit a few blogs and read some articles about life in France, but also discover a few examples of the French influence overseas.

I'm sure those behind the websites will appreciate a comment or two, but also make sure you follow the addition of new articles as the authors often write about living in France.

This year's orchid score - Days on the Claise
Some great photographs of orchids from Simon and Susan that the pair have discovered, and recorded, dotted in the fields and along the roadsides close to their home.

None of the orchids we saw were in difficult to find or inaccessible places. In some places the common species are like weeds, popping up in lawns and gardens mulched with gravel, or right there in droves on the side of the road or in fields.

French baking school that cares about untouchables of India - Why Travel to France
A very interesting story about the work of two Frenchmen in India who have created a baking school to help train local people.

Tucked away in Chennai, India (southeast coast of India in the northeast of Tamil Nadu), you’ll find an usual and unexpected establishment: a French baking school.

Michael Lewis of Bloomberg: arrogance and ignorance at their worst! SuperFrenchie
The always interesting SuperFrenchie highlights a quite terrible article that chucks together many stereotypes and some fractured economic thinking.

Basically, the column starts with one correct fact: the Brits work more than the French. Michael Lewis, the author, got that one right.

Eymet blog
Still quite a new blog looking at life from a corner of Dordogne that is famous for its British presence.

We have been travelling around 'our' department, especially as the weather has been cooler in the past few days. Interestingly the northern Perigord towns and villages are a startling contrast to the Eymet and 'our' locality.

Jealous Britain? Berry Deep France
A view of the UK from Frenchman Jacques Reland who lives in London and comments on many of the differences between the two countries (scroll past header image for story).

In Britain it’s all about making money. Everywhere you go, there is always someone trying to get you to part with your cash. The British spend a lot. The French don’t.

Cold comfort - Red, White and Bleu
ParisGirl is often travelling between the UK and France, but her recent time in London has been spent battling the poor weather and even thought about turning the heating on.

There was a moment last week as La Fille and I huddled together for warmth under a pushchair blanket (the only warm thing we could find) on the sofa wearing all the clothes we had with us to watch Monsters, Inc.
