Foot passenger service from SpeedFerries
THE cross Channel service between Dover and Boulogne, operated by SpeedFerries, is to open its doors to foot passengers for the first time.
The service will start on July 11 and passengers will be collected from outside the Western Docks in Dover by a shuttle bus and taken onboard the company's SpeedOne.
The return journey will see passengers collected from outside Boulogne Port before transfer onto the ship, for the sailing to Dover.
Tickets will cost £7.50 per person each way, regardless of duration of stay, while check-in time for the bus transport is 45 minutes before departure.

I have been an avid fan of SpeedFerries since day one and I receive all of their email news letters.
SpeedFerries have 2 great offers on:
1) £25 for a car & 5 pasengers. This is for frequently travellers who buy a bulk 10 Trip FLEX Voucher which you have 2 years to use but every sailing will cost you £253
2) £30 for a car & 5 passengers for any sailing from now until end of December 2009. Super Tickets are for the less frequent traveller but anyone can buy them.
You can use the above offers to travel on any date!!! Half term, summer holidays and peak season are included if you buy now!
You can also be the first to hear about such offers by joining the Speed Ferry news emails.
If you've not used them before then I recommend you give SpeedFerries a go!

I hate to say it but we used Speedferries in August twice and although I do agree that the price was the cheapest the service was terrible. apart from our personal experience of this, there was also a line of people who needed to make changes to their online reservation and were up in arms because the staff at port were apart from being rude, were completely unwilling to help them. They were told to go online or call customer services, which at that time had closed.
Also, don't bother going for the Premium service. It just gives you a coffee and dry iced bun. i don't think its worth it.
As they say - You get what you pay for. Aint that the truth.

I am sorry to hear Trade Man's negative comments regarding Speedferries. We too have been with them since day one, making 3 return journeys each year and are now on our second FLEX voucher. The service has always been fantastic, although admittedly we have never travelled in August.
Loading is always speedy and the boat leaves once everyone has turned up. So if you all arrive at the dock early the boat leaves early - there is no unnecessary hanging around.
The refreshments are basic but on a short crossing who needs more. If you want a gourmet meal take a picnic!
I agree there is no need to travel Premium. You do get priority in loading, a newspaper and small snack, and to sit in a cordoned off area but that is all. There is always plenty of choice anyway in where to sit without that awful scramble you get on the larger ferries where everyone rushes to stake their claim.
I think it is extremely good value for money.
On one occasion the crossing was a bit rough and I have never before seen such attentive staff as we had who were discreetly looking after those who were feeling unwell.

Sadly it looks like Speedferries have gone bust after their Speed 1 was impounded in Boulougne last thursday 1700 hrs. for alleged non-payment of port dues. I still have 18 unused FTraveller tickets paid for....... I think by credit card. I hope they come back, I liked them and it had become a decent and efficient service.
