Ryanair heading back to Clermont Ferrand?
IT would appear the president of the Auvergne regional council is close to agreeing a deal with Ryanair on a link between Clermont Ferrand and the UK.
René Souchon is quoted on the ABC Money website as saying, "negotiations are going on with a view to Ryanair being able to reopen a thrice-weekly flight between Clermont and London from April 1 2008".
Ryanair ended its link from Stansted to the city airport more than three years ago, and there are currently no flights to the UK from the airport and only a handful of destinations are served outside of France.
The airports closest to the region linked to by UK operators are Limoges and Rodez, although they are still a good distance away, but Ryanair is conducting a study to see if the return of a link between Clermont Ferrand and the UK is viable.
For those people keen to see the service return maybe a word of encouragement to René Souchon via his website will help.

This is very good news for people leaving near London and looking for ski holidays with properties cheaper than in the Alps. In 50mn from Clermont-Ferrand airport you can have access to Super Besse ski resort.

I certainly hope it works out. I wish there is more direct flight or even international flights from Clermont Ferrand.
