Parisians work least in city survey

Bluefrenchlifeblock03040_9IT was interesting to see the results of a survey by Swiss bank UBS into the purchasing power of people in 71 cities around the world.

The statistics showed that Oslo, London, Copenhagen, Zurich and Tokyo were the world’s most expensive cities.

The UBS study Prices and Earnings showed that life was particularly expensive in London and New York if the cost of housing was included.

But, a little further into the report Paris gets a mention as the city where employees work the shortest number of hours a year – 1,480. Berlin came close where a years' work equals 1,610 hours.

And I thought to myself, if you are not needed behind the desk or on the factory floor then there are few better places to be than Paris, and France in general, to while away those ‘out of office’ hours.

It's true: you either call at 9.30 and the person is not in until "after 10", forget to ring back, and then it's midday, try to catch them before lunch, "they won't be back til 14h Madame".........Forget again and see it's 5.15pm and of course,no point calling, everyone has gone home.

Don't even think about leaving a message. No one will ever return a call.
